XCAPE Navigation ("XCAPE," "we," "us," or "our") operates a tourism and navigation mobile application and website for Anguilla. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our app, website, AI concierge, business portal, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

a. Device Information

When you use the XCAPE mobile app, we automatically collect:

  • Device identifier (Android or iOS device ID)
  • Device model and operating system version
  • App version
  • Language preference
  • Push notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging)

b. Location Data

XCAPE is a navigation app and relies on location data to function. We collect:

  • Real-time GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude)
  • Location history for route calculations and driving time estimates
  • Venue visit data when you arrive within proximity of listed locations

Location data is essential for navigation, route planning, nearby place discovery, and personalized recommendations. You can disable location services through your device settings, though this will limit app functionality.

c. Chat and Communication Data

When you use our community chat or AI concierge features, we collect:

  • Chat messages and any images you share
  • Nickname you choose for community chat
  • Conversation history with the AI concierge (retained for context within your session)

Community chat messages are automatically deleted after 3 days. AI concierge conversations use your recent message history to provide contextual responses.

d. Photos

If you share photos through the app, we may collect GPS metadata embedded in the image to verify location authenticity and tag the photo with the relevant venue or beach.

e. Ratings and Feedback

If you rate a place or provide feedback, we store your rating along with your device identifier and a timestamp.

f. Business Owner Information

If you register for our Business Portal, we collect:

  • Business name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing)
  • Listing content you provide (photos, descriptions, hours, etc.)
  • Payment and transaction information for premium advertising

g. Cookies

Our website and business portal use cookies to maintain login sessions. These cookies store:

  • Session identifiers
  • Authentication status
  • Basic account information (name, email) for logged-in business owners

Cookies expire after 30 days. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but this will prevent you from using the business portal.

h. QR Code Scans

When you scan an XCAPE QR code, we may record the scan timestamp, device type, and marketing attribution data (UTM parameters) to measure campaign effectiveness.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide navigation, routing, and location-based discovery services
  • Power the AI concierge to answer questions about Anguilla and recommend places
  • Send push notifications about nearby events, places, or relevant information
  • Display community chat and moderate content for safety
  • Enable business owners to manage and promote their listings
  • Calculate driving times and distances between locations
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service
  • Detect and prevent misuse, spam, or harmful content

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with the following third-party service providers who process it on our behalf:

a. Google (Firebase & Maps)

We use Google Firebase for push notifications and Google Maps APIs for routing, driving times, and place information. Your device token, platform, and location coordinates are shared with Google for these purposes. Google's privacy policy applies to their processing of this data.

b. Anthropic (AI Concierge)

Our AI concierge is powered by Anthropic's Claude. When you interact with the concierge, your messages, location, and conversation history are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic processes this data according to their privacy policy and does not use it to train their models.

c. Payment Processors

When business owners purchase premium listings, payment information is processed by our third-party payment provider. We do not store full credit card numbers on our servers.

d. Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

4. Push Notifications

We may send push notifications based on:

  • Your device platform (Android/iOS)
  • Places you have visited
  • Activity categories you have engaged with
  • How recently you arrived on the island
  • Your language preference

You can opt out of push notifications at any time through your device settings.

5. Data Retention

  • Chat messages: Automatically deleted after 3 days
  • Location history: Retained while your device is active in the system
  • Business owner accounts: Retained until account deletion is requested
  • AI concierge conversations: Retained for contextual continuity; older messages are periodically cleared
  • Cookies: Expire after 30 days

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:

  • Password hashing for business owner accounts
  • Restricted access to administrative systems
  • Content moderation for community features

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information
  • Opt out of push notifications
  • Disable location tracking via your device settings
